Best Shampoo Bar for Gray Hair
Natural shampoo bars are a great alternative to traditional shampoos with all of their added unnecessary ingredients and preservatives. My favorite shampoo bar for gray hair is the one made by Made On Skincare with Rhassoul Clay, cocoa butter, and canola oil.
I am in love with this shampoo bar. It has improved my scalp health and astonishingly is not drying to my curly, dry hair. I do follow it up with conditioner, but I find I need less than I used to. Excellent product. Fellow curlies, don't be afraid to give it a try! In the picture I included, I used the shampoo bar as well as the Second Life Hair butter.

Best Shampoo for Gray Hair
Okay, this is a trick question, at least for me, because as a someone who uses the Curly Girl Method for my wavy hair, I am usually "no-poo," which means that I do not use shampoo on my hair. It is far too drying, so as an alternative, I "wash" my hair with conditioner!
Yes, this is me below, and yes, I am not totally gray yet; just "going gray" with my gradual adding of gray hair "highlights," but this gray hair curly-girl no-poo method will work for totally gray hair just as well!
Yes, it cleans just as well as shampoo, but yes, you do have to use more. And as I have a lot of thick hair hair, I use quite a bit.
That is why I love the Suave Essentials conditioner for "shampooing" my wavy hair. It is very inexpensive, even in the jumbo bottle, yet is still "Curly-Girl Approved" without any Curly Girl "banned" ingredients that are not good for healthy curls.
And to be totally honest? I wasn't sure about the "no-poo" method for a long time (seemed pretty weird and icky to me!) but once I gave it a shot, I had an amazing realization...my itchy scalp that I'd suffered with for years, despite trying all the "natural" shampoos and such, FINALLY got much better! What a relief and surprise!
So if you suffer from an itchy scalp, definitely try going "no-poo"!
Best Purple Shampoo for Gray Hair
The best purple shampoo for gray or white hair is the Shimmer Lights Conditioning Purple Shampoo for Blonde and Silver Hair by Clairol. It is an award-winning, protein-enriched color-enhancing shampoo that tones down brassiness on gray hair. It removes the dull yellow in gray hair and leaves your hair beautifully shiny.
Best Moisturizer for Gray Hair
My favorite moisturizer for gray hair is SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Conditioner. Can you tell I love coconut?
The SheaMoisture Curl & Shine Conditioner is great for curly gray hair, wavy gray hair, or frizzy gray hair, as it packs a big punch in terms of moisturizing, which curly hair and gray hair thirst for.
Best Leave-in Conditioner for Gray Hair
I love the Cantu Shea Butter Coconut Curling Cream. Another product containing the awesome super-moisturizing shea butter, and, of course, the lovely tropical scent of coconut!
A little of this stuff goes a long way in conditioning and strengthening your gray hair! And if you have waves or curls, the Cantu Curling Cream will define them beautifully, without any gray-hair frizz!
Best Deep Conditioner for Gray Hair
The best deep conditioner for gray hair is the Lilla Rose Hair Masque.
I use this hair mask at least once a week, only on the bottom half/ends of my hair, for a refreshing deep moisturizing boost, as the hair close to my scalp still has plenty of oil. It really helps with reducing the gray hair frizz and softening your wiry gray hairs!
(Update: Since I wrote this, I heard testimonies that ladies were using the Lilla Rose hair masque to get thicker hair. Since I don't have thin hair, I didn't pay much attention to that. But I did start using the hair masque every day just to help with my frizzy graying hair. Wow, what a surprise to find that MY already-thick hair got even thicker!)
I put it on in the beginning of my shower (a little goes a super-long way...seriously...you only need a tiny bit as this is super-concentrated!), comb it through with a wide-tooth comb, finish my shower, then rinse it out.
Sometimes I will not rinse it out, but keep it as a great leave-in conditioner. It is amazing at preventing frizz!
Below are pics of my friend Kim. She loves this gray hair deep conditioner in both her curly hair and straightened hair! Look how healthy it is!
Best Heat Protectant for Gray Hair
The best heat protectant for gray hair has to be the Lilla Rose Thermal Defense Spray. It protects your hair from the damaging effects of using heat styling, such as blow-drying or using flat or curling irons. It also protects against harmful UV rays.
With its hair-healthy ingredients, it makes your gray hair smooth, shiny, and healthy.
Check out my friend Laurie's testimonial and photo below!
“I’m in love with our thermal defense!!!
One side is with, one side is without…photo taken immediately after a blow dry ”

Best Anti-Frizz Product for Gray Hair
Want to tame your gray hair frizz in just seconds? Then you've got to try the Leave-in Conditioning Detangler Spray by Lilla Rose!
Here is my Tails-up hairstyle. Before the detangling spray, my loose ends were wiry and straw-like. After a few sprays and a couple scrunches with my hand, my curls were more defined, and my frizzy ends were nice and tame!

Best Hair Serum for Gray Hair
The hair serum by Lilla Rose will give your gray hair shine, strength and softness. As a side benefit, it may even help your hair to grow!
"I love this product for my curls! I've been using it for about 2 weeks, and my curls are tamed (no more frizz, even on rainy days!). It's quick and easy to use right out of the shower. The Lilla Rose Hair Serum is now in my daily routine. Can't believe it took me 44 years to find this product!"- Janet Amaral
I also highly recommend using the hair masque that will greatly help reduce frizz in the first place! It also makes thin hair thicker!
Best Highlights for Gray Hair
I love the Lilla Rose Hair Mascara for gray hair highlights! So quick and easy to apply at home, and are just temporary (they wash out after a couple shampoos) so that you are not committing to anything permanent!
This is a great way to blend in gray hair as you are going gray. You can add lowlights or highlights for a very natural look that is beautiful.

Best Root Concealer for Gray Hair
Again, I'll have to go with the Lilla Rose temporary hair mascara to cover those pesky gray roots! Not only does it quickly and easily cover roots, but it tames flyaways and those wiry gray hairs into sleek and nicely-behaved tresses.

Best Volumizer for Gray Hair
You may have asked yourself, "How do I add volume to my grey hair?" or "How can I make my grey hair look thicker?"
If so, then the gray hair product you are looking for is the Lilla Rose Amplifying Foam. It is the best volumizer for fine or thin hair, which gray hair tends to get as it ages. You will love this stuff for adding volume to your gray hair!
Best Brush for Gray Hair
Okay, okay, I never in a million years thought I could actually LOVE a hair brush. I mean, aren't they all the same?
And actually, I didn't even use hair brushes - I preferred using a big ol' pick to get out all my tangles.
But then I tried the new Flexi Brush. To say I was shocked was an understatement. Can someone say, "DIY Scalp Massage"?
This thing actually moves with your head! Like, it FLEXES! It gives your scalp the most amazing, utterly soothing scalp massage you've ever had!
Check out my video below to learn more!
The website description says it "has a curved comb shape with a flexible body designed to gently detangle hair and prevent damage."
Okay, so if you need a gentle hairbrush that doesn't damage your hair, this is good, too, but I'm just sayin' that I love it as a heavenly scalp massager!
I challenge you to see if you can only give this ONE stroke on your head. Guaranteed you won't be able to stop with just one, as it feels that good!
I'm sorry, but since "Where is my Hairbrush" by Veggie Tales is now stuck in my head, it is only fair to get it stuck in yours as well.
Best Hair Towel for Gray Hair
Now the answer to the question of what is the best hair towel for gray hair is, "It depends!" Do you have thick, curly gray hair or fine, thin gray hair?
If you have fine, thin gray hair, then the best hair towel for you is the white anti-bacterial bamboo hair towel by Lilla Rose. It could cut your drying time in half, yet it is gentle on your hair. Just wrap your hair in this super-soft and absorbent natural bamboo towel after washing, put on your makeup, then remove to do your hair!
Check out my video on how to use the bamboo hair towel to get beach waves!
If you have thick, curly gray hair, and want no-frizz curls or waves, then the best hair towel is the purple 100% cotton gauze hair towel by Lilla Rose. It dries very gently, without totally drying, so that if you are using the curly-girl method for your curly hair, and want some moisture left in your hair for scrunching into curls, then the gauze hair towel is for you.
Best Pillowcase for Gray Hair
Gray hair needs a little more TLC and protection while you sleep. After all, your hair spends a third of your life smooshed and tossed on your pillow.
(I was going to say, unless you have midlife insomnia, in which case it may not be a third of your life, but then again, that probably just makes the smooshing and tossing and turning worse! Okay, funny but not funny.)
Seriously, night smooshing just pulls out already thin hair, or makes frizzier already frizzy gray hair.
A great solution is to sleep on a genuine silk pillowcase, which is so gentle on both your hair and delicate aging skin. It helps maintain your hair's natural oils and helps prevent split ends, frizziness, and hair loss.
Silk is also naturally antibacterial, which will also help prevent breakouts.
The best silk pillowcase is the handmade, 100% natural and hypoallergenic pure mulberry silk pillowcase by Lilla Rose.
What I love the most about this pillowcase is how awesomely COOL it is, as in not hot! If you suffer from night sweats or hot flashes and find yourself waking up to flip your pillow to the cool side, you will love this pillowcase! I have not had to flip my pillow once, since using it! It makes for a much more restful night's sleep!
Every woman over 50 (or over 40!) needs one of these!
Best Toner for Gray Hair
The best toner for gray hair is ColorCharm® by Wella. It is a permanent liquid hair toner that saturates, penetrates and fuses with the hair to deliver vibrant color that is exceptionally fade resistant.
Best Dry Shampoo for Gray Hair
I love the dry shampoo by Lilla Rose, as it is adds incredible volume and texture to fine grey hair, without any stickiness or residue.

Best Eyebrow Pencil
for Gray Hair
When you are over 50, your eyebrows tend to get thinner (sad, but true), which makes it hard to use simply an eyebrow brush to add tint to your eyebrows. I have found that a gel-like eyebrow pencil works best at drawing in my missing brows at the same time as darkening those I still have.
My favorite eyebrow pencil for gray hair is NYX Professional Micro Brow Eyebrow Pencil. I have found that its gel-like texture gives my thin brows a much more natural look, especially if I use the attached spoolie eyebrow brush to (fluff?) them up after drawing in what I'm missing from my more youthful days. I also like the micro tip, which is perfect for thinning brows.
You can also get the NYX eyebrow pencil in a flat tip, if you prefer that shape for filling in your brows.
Best Eyebrow Color for Gray Hair
My favorite eyebrow color for gray hair is Ash Brown by NYX. Other great eyebrow colors for gray hair are taupe and gray-brown.
A pure gray color might make you look too old, and a straight brown shade may be too harsh of a contrast with your beautifully lightening silver hair tones.
The ash brown eyebrow shade from NYX Professional is the perfect balance. You get the youthful look of a brown tone with the softening of ash/gray that gives more of a natural look with your lovely graying hair.
