Does Rose Water Help Your Skin? Hear from Ladies who Swear by It!

You may have heard about rose water, an ancient natural beauty tonic, and wondered, “What is so special about rose water? Does rose water actually do anything? Does rose water really help your skin?"

Probably the best way to answer these questions is to ask the ladies who are using it, love it, and can’t live without it!

So, let's start with the short answer to the question...

Does Rose Water Help your Skin?

Rose water has multiple benefits for your skin. It cleanses, hydrates, refreshes, and tones your face, for a youthful, glowing complexion. It prevents and clear acne, helps dry or oily skin, reduces redness, improves rosacea, and relieves dark eye circles and puffiness. It also helps reduce itchiness in skin, whether from mosquito bites, eczema or sunburn.

I actually had never heard about rose water until my daughters started talking about it a couple of years ago and using it to help improve their complexion.  I didn't give it much thought and figured it may be just a fad, but then I recently saw a friend comment on Facebook about it.  She had suffered from chronic itching as well as weird itchy bumps on her arms and shoulders. Out of desperation she decided to give rose water a try and was amazed that not only did the rash clear up, but the itchiness subsided as well.

After hearing her story, I knew I had to give it a try for my crazy itching that I had that kept me up at night as well, due to hormones, circadian rhythms, who-knows-what. And to my BIG surprise, it really did help the itchiness subside greatly and I have been able to sleep so much better now.

I am so thankful I decided to look into it, as I had tried everything with no luck before that. So, I decided to search out and compile a variety of rose water testimonials and put them in a blog post.

BUT...I  quickly found myself overwhelmed with so many testimonials that I realized that it was way more than I could fit in a single blog post. So for the sake of time and space, I've had to narrow the focus of this post to the benefits of rose water for your skin, but since rose water is also great for your hair, mood, hot flashes and more, this will be just the first in a series of posts on the amazing benefits of rose water.

But first of all, what exactly is Rose Water, anyway?

What is Rose Water?

Rose Water is a liquid that is made by distilling rose petals with steam. It is also known as rose hydrosol.  It has traditionally been used in beauty products since ancient times and has many benefits for your skin, hair, and mood.

Does Rose Water help with Dry Skin?

Rose Water makes a great moisturizer and gives light hydration to your skin.

april guice

I used it after my shower because my face was so dry it felt like my skin was too tight. I couldn't find my lotion. Rose Water to the rescue. It's better for my skin anyway.

noell Roach

It smells so good. I like to use it as a body mist when I get out of the shower. 💜

Can you use Rose Water as Moisturizer??

Rose water makes an excellent and natural moisturizer, that is light and not heavy.

michele kern

I love this rose water spray for every part of me. I can spray it on my hair and not have to worry about it getting on my face because next I do spray my face . I also spray my legs because they get dry. When I’m done I rub the remainder all over my hands and arms. This definitely needs to come in a bigger size, it’s my favorite.

Does Rose Water help with Sunburn??

Using Rose Water to relieve the heat and discomfort of sunburns is one of its most popular uses. You will definitely want to include it on your next beach vacation!

erin svejda

Just used it this last week on my son's sunburn, too. Been using it for a few years that way. I never travel to the beach without it!

gina hahn

I have used it on sunburns also. Amazing how cooling and hydrating it is. The man in my house even let me spray it on his sunburn and even commented how much it helped. He never fussed about the rose aroma either.

rebekah highlen

Using it for sunburn IS my favorite use for it! I love to mist it on my face at night after a day on which I was outside a lot and got a slight burn. So far, I haven’t had a sunburn peel since I started using Rosewater on it. I haven’t had a “bad” sunburn, though. I love that it brings almost instantaneous relief from the effects a sunburn has on me…and usually by the next morning, the sunburn has faded and doesn’t bother me at all.

Does Rose Water help Itchy Skin??

Rose water is amazing at relieving itchy skin. After reading the testimonial of Rachel below, I knew I had to try it, as my skin gets incredibly and unbearably itchy at night. I'm not sure why...something to do with hormones and circadian rhythms from what I've read, and my antihistamine only gave me minimal relief.

I was so surprised that rose water gave me such relief! Wow! I had had my rose water for months, but never knew that a remedy for itchy skin was right there sitting in my drawer.

cathy smith

I guess I’m allergic to grass. I’ve had several nights lately that my ankles have itched so horribly that I can’t sleep. On a whim I sprayed rose water on them...and promptly went right to sleep.

rachel coulter

I had to share this.  I have been suffering from some odd skin conditions for a few months.  The worst is at the top of my chest, shoulder and upper arm area.  I’ve tried everything with no luck.  Another issue I’ve been dealing with is a bizarre sudden itching and irritation all over my body to the point I want to claw my skin off.  Last night as I was getting ready for bed, I looked at the bottle of rose water sitting on my bureau and thought, what the heck…it won’t hurt, and if nothing else, it’ll smell good.  OMG, I started with my legs and before I got to my shoulders, my legs were already calm.  As for my shoulders, I have no words. [My itchy bumps on my shoulders are gone.] It was embarrassing to wear tank tops, or my dresses.  I am so incredibly grateful, for a product that has so many benefits!

Does Rose Water help Mosquito Bites?

This was another surprising benefit of Rose Water that I had no idea about!

Living in southwest Florida, bug bites, from mosquitos or fire ants, are a given. I had no idea that Rose Water could help so much with the itching!

becky denman

I actually used it on my ankle this morning. A mosquito took a nibble and I was scratching it like crazy. Why torture myself... Rosewater to the rescue!

Paula Ramm

I was skeptical, but thought hey, why not, and sprayed my crazy-itchy bug bites with rose water, and wow, the itchiness subsided by 90%!

Does Rose Water help Eczema?

Eczema is one of those mystery ailments that seems to have no cure. Diet is the first place to look for culprits.
While you are searching for the underlying cause, definitely try Rose Water to get some relief!

sandra Schendel

This is the only thing that helps calm my friend's eczema!

Julie Berner

Soothes my itchy eczema!

Does Rose Water help Poison Ivy?

Another surprising benefit of Rose water.  Its anti-inflamatory properties helps provide relief from poison ivy rashes and the crazy itching and discomfort that comes with them.

Remember, "Leaves of 3, let them be!"

Natalie J

Very soothing.  Made that crazy panicky itch go away temporarily

Can you use Rose Water as Perfume?

I'll admit, I was hesitant to try rose water for just this reason...that I thought I wouldn't care for the rose scent. For some reason the scent of roses always reminded me of that "old lady" scent (never mind that I am now the "old lady." lol)

After trying REAL organic Rose Water, however, I realized that it wasn't the pure scent of roses that I didn't like, but the FAKE, ARTIFICIAL rose scent, made up of who-knows-what chemicals.

If you get the real stuff, like the quality Lilla Rose Rosewater, you will change your tune as well!

deanna fosmire

So many uses! I was first attracted to the Rose Water because of its natural ingredients and I first started using it as a freshener after a workout, even a deodorant or perfume. Then on my face after washing, then on my hair as a detangler or for fly-aways. Finally, whenever I need a calming spritz - absolutely my favorite! Love it!

Rebekah Nold

I love to use this rosewater as a perfume and hair mist! It is a lovely pure fragrance that captures the delicacy of a rose perfectly. 🙂

What Brand of Rose Water is Best?

lilla rose rose water

Loved all these testimonials? They all came from Facebook pages and groups talking about the pure, organic rose water from Lilla Rose.

Lilla Rose Rose Water is made from certified organic steam distilled Bulgarian rose petals in a  delicate hydrosol spray.

As you can see, ladies love the Lilla Rose Rose Water!

You have to be very careful about the quality of rose water you use, as all rose water is not created equal. Many cheap brands contain fillers and chemicals that are not only toxic and unhealthy for your body, but give you that "old lady" scent instead of the real, pure scent of strolling a rose garden in the summer.

Some may also dilute with water, to make it cheaper, but again, will not not give you the full benefits or the delicate scent of pure undiluted rose water.

I have always loved rose water, but it was hard to find. Others I've tried seemed to be more water and less rose. When I noticed Lilla Rose had it, I had to try.

It smells amazing and the scent is long lasting.

Julie Plant

The Rose Water is one of my favorite Lilla Rose products! It smells divine!
